Isha Yoga Centre: Where Inner Journeys Begin
Set at the foothills of the Velliangiri Mountains, approximately 30 km west of Coimbatore, Isha Yoga Centre is the global headquarters of the Isha Foundation, drawing visitors from across India and abroad. Maruthamalai Murugan Temple: A Hilltop Abode of Lord Murugan
A 12th-century hill temple on a granite hillock about 12 km west of Coimbatore, this shrine sits at approximately 600 ft. and is dedicated to Lord Murugan, worshipped here as Dhandayuthapani. The presiding deity is said to have manifested at this very location. The surrounding hillock is dense with Ayurvedic herbs, long used in traditional medicine by communities in the region.
The traditional route to the summit involves climbing approximately 700 steps along the southern staircase. The Pambatti Siddhar Cave, dedicated to the saint Pambatti Siddhar, is accessible via a separate staircase at the southern end of the temple complex for those who wish to visit it. From the top, the views across the Coimbatore plains are clear on most mornings before the heat haze sets in. Temple buses run from the foothills approximately every 15 minutes for those who prefer to ride up, though frequency may vary by season and day of the week.

The Siruvani River that feeds the falls is widely regarded as one of the purest water sources in the world, with a naturally sweet taste that draws visitors as much as the scenery itself.
At the Sadivayal Checkpost, private vehicles are stopped, and forest department buses cover the remaining 2 km into the reserve. From there, a 900-metre walk along an uneven forest trail leads to the falls.

Velliangiri Hills: A Sacred Trek through the Western Ghats

Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park: Into the Anamalai Wilderness
Stretching across 958 sq. km of the Anamalai Hills, Indira Gandhi Wildlife Sanctuary and National Park, formerly known as the Anaimalai Tiger Reserve, is one of the largest protected areas in Tamil Nadu, and its main visitor zone is Topslip, a forested plateau that takes its name from the British era when timber was logged and slipped down to the plains below. From Coimbatore, Topslip is approximately 70 km, roughly a 2-hour drive via Pollachi. The reserve shares its borders with Parambikulam Wildlife Sanctuary and Eravikulam National Park across the Kerala state line, making it part of one of the most biodiverse corridors in South India.
Wildlife regularly sighted here includes tigers, elephants, gaur, leopards, lion-tailed macaques, sambar, spotted deer, and over 250 bird species. Inside the reserve, all movement is handled by forest department vehicles, with jeep safaris and elephant rides running through designated zones.
